PostSubject: Testing for the recessive parti gene   Testing for the recessive parti gene I_icon_minitimeFri 28 Jan 2011, 9:17 am

I am so excited to get started to breed parti yorkies!!!
I am in South Africa and there are only 4 parti yorkies here which were imported from the USA. I am getting a male and a female carrier puppies from the breeder which imported them. And I am wondering if you breed 2 gene carriers to each other some of the pups will be parti(25%) some will be gene carrier(50%) and some will be your traditional yorkie(25%) is there any way where you can get the pups tested to see which ones carries the genes?? Any suggestions on which labs does this testing?? I have contacted many labs and none of them preforms these tests bounce

I inquired about this too. Health gene does do this test. Below is the email I got from them.

Hello Debbie,
Thank you for your inquiry. We do have a coat and nose colour test
to determine if a Yorkshire terrier is a carrier of the piebald gene.
You can either order this test by e-mail or by phone. The cost for this
test will be $55.00 per dog. The amount can be paid with Visa,
MasterCard, or American Express or you can mail in a Certified Cheque,
or Money Order. Once payment is received we will send out a sample
collection kit to an address you specify. In this kit there will be a
set of swabs which you can use to collect DNA samples from your dog(s),
there will also be instructions on how to collect the samples properly.
If you have any further questions please do not hesitate to contact me.
